The Social Goods Distribution (SGD) at Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini is a large-scaled social project that has been organizing the free distribution of essential foodstuff, hygiene products, and other necessities to beneficiaries since 2013.<\/p>

This initiative ensures that individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, or residence status, who cannot afford basic goods due to long-term economic hardship or temporary emergencies like natural disasters, receive the support they need.<\/p>

Operating on a demand-driven principle, the Social Goods Distribution functions in three modes. Firstly, it acts as a Logistics Center for Humanitarian Aid (LCHA), rapidly organizing supplies during acute crises such as earthquakes, forest fires, and floods. In collaboration with local authorities and aid organizations, specific needs are assessed, and with public calls donations are collected, sorted, labeled and distributed to affected areas, providing swift and organized relief.<\/p>

Secondly, it serves as a social safety net providing monthly packages of essential goods to individuals and families unable to secure these items on their own due to health or other reasons. These packages include food and hygiene products, addressing the elementary needs of about 30 households regularly. Additionally, targeted campaigns supply special items, like school supplies to disadvantaged children, ensuring comprehensive support.<\/p>

The third mode is that of a \u201csocial supermarket\u201d where registered beneficiaries can select and „purchase“ basic goods using our virtual currency (KASTA) earned through active participation in community tasks such as maintenance, gardening, and small repairs. This mode empowers beneficiaries by allowing them to choose goods according to their preferences, fostering a sense of dignity and self-reliance.<\/p>

The Social Goods Distribution is intricately linked to the principles of the European Solidarity Corps, promoting solidarity and volunteering as tools to combat social and humanitarian challenges. By addressing the undersupply of basic goods and organizing efficient distribution during emergencies, the project demonstrates significant European added value. The Social Goods Distribution is running throughout the year (except state holidays). Participants in the Social Goods Distribution initiative contribute to the coordination and organization of a space where food and basic necessities are stored and provided to individuals and families facing vulnerability. Their responsibilities include monitoring product condition and expiration dates, replenishing stock, categorizing items clearly, and arranging them on the appropriate shelves. Through attentive inventory management and systematic organization, they help ensure that the social market operates smoothly, remains accessible, and continues to effectively support those in need.<\/p>

In addition to their primary responsibilities, participants are encouraged to take part in other projects and activities taking place in Kapnikos during their stay. At the same time, participants from different initiatives may also contribute to the Social Goods Distribution, fostering collaboration, shared responsibility, and a dynamic exchange of experiences across projects.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

When and how many hours do I work?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The working week runs from Monday to Friday with Saturday and Sunday being task-free. Additionally, every volunteer is entitled to optional vacation days (2 days for every month).<\/span><\/p>
