Accommodation at Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini is located directly on the project venue, allowing participants to be fully immersed in the daily life of the community. Depending on the project and period, volunteers are accommodated either in the volunteering apartments or in the shared dormitory.

Volunteering Apartments

Participants may stay in one of two volunteering apartments located on site. The apartments consist of three spacious bedrooms of approximately 14 m² each, furnished with bunk beds and accommodating up to four people per room. Each bedroom is equipped with closets and the essential furnishings needed for comfortable everyday living.

The apartments include a shared kitchen and one private bathroom, and are equipped with central heating, ensuring a warm and comfortable environment in the cold months. The buildings were renovated in 2022, with improved insulation to enhance energy efficiency and overall comfort. 

Shared Dormitory (Summer Camp Setting)

In the spirit of a typical summer camp, during certain projects volunteers stay in a shared dormitory housed in a spacious and cozy hall known as Paramythoupoli, located in a historic building on the premises. The dormitory is air-conditioned and accommodates up to 20 participants in a communal sleeping area with 10 bunk beds.

There is no separation by gender in the dormitory. This setup encourages interaction, coexistence, and a strong sense of togetherness among participants. Given the summer conditions and the outdoor nature of many activities, the dormitory is primarily used for resting at night and storing personal belongings, while daily life unfolds largely outdoors and in shared spaces.

Sanitary Facilities and Daily Comfort

The main sanitary facilities are located next to the apartments and were newly constructed in 2019. In 2022, four individual shower rooms were added to further improve comfort and privacy. The facilities include separate bathrooms for men and women, each equipped with multiple toilets, as well as a total of five shower rooms to ensure availability even during peak periods.

Bedsheets, towels, and basic hygiene items are provided by the organization, so participants do not need to bring these from home. Wi-Fi is available on site and can be used freely.

The Outdoor Kitchen “Fournin”

Daily life at Kapnikos Stathmos revolves around the outdoor or summer kitchen, “Fournin,” which serves as the social heart of the facility – even in winter. All meals are prepared and shared here, creating a central meeting point where volunteers, staff, and visitors come together throughout the day.

“Fournin” is fully equipped with all necessary appliances and workspaces, allowing for the preparation of meals of any kind. A distinctive feature of the kitchen is its traditional stone oven, which is regularly used for communal cooking and shared meals. From everyday dishes to handmade pizzas, the oven adds a unique character to life at Kapnikos Stathmos and reinforces the sense of community built around food and shared routines.
