Rules

The basic guidelines of respect towards each other, the facility and the laws of the hosting country to ensure that everybody can have a pleasant and meaningful stay.

Kapnikos Stathmos: One Community, Many Roles

  • Everybody has his or her own mind, beliefs and boundaries, which need to be respected unconditionally at all times. Our freedom ends where the freedom of others begins, especially in the shared sleeping quarters.
  • We all enjoy tidy and clean working and living conditions. This is why we leave every space we occupy (for working, eating, showering etc.) clean and presentable for the next one to use.
  • We are all living and working together in close proximity; therefore, it is important to take care of one’s personal hygiene.
  • We all need to be on the same schedule. That means that for starting and meeting times we are present in time and ready to go.

Respect towards the hosting organization and the facility:

  • We have to preserve our buildings as best as possible. This is why inside the apartment we don’t wear shoes, we don’t eat meals, and we absolutely don’t let animals inside. Moreover, we only use the outdoor kitchen for cooking and we only smoke in the dedicated area.
  • Safety is of great importance to ensure the well-being of the community and to protect the valuable things donated and trusted to Kapnikos Stathmos. This is why we make sure that the front door is always closed and after 22:00 in the evening locked for the night.
  • We firmly believe in avoiding unnecessary waste and conserving natural resources and energy to the best of our abilities. This is why we have to make an extra effort to avoid waste in any form (lights, running water, food etc.)

Respect towards the rules of the guest country

  • Kapnikos Stathmos is part of a regular Greek neighborhood. This is why after 22:00 in the evening we respectfully keep the quiet hours.
  • Greece has a threefold waste management system. Material that can get recycled (paper, intact bottles, plastic packaging etc.) is thrown into the blue bin, organic waste goes into the brown bin, and everything else into the green one. All bins have to be taken outside the entrance of Kapnikos Stathmos every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evening for pick-up.
  • Greece’s sewerage system in large parts is old and frail. This is why it is very important to not throw anything (including toilet paper) into the toilet. Always use the bins next to the toilet.
  • * In compliance with Greek law, all kinds of weapons and illegal substances (including marihuana) are strictly prohibited on the premises of Kapnikos Stathmos.
