Where am I?
A Mediterranean city between mountain and sea, shaped by history, community, and a relaxed pace of life.
Katerini/Pieria: Nature, Culture & Easy Access
Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini is located in northern Greece, in the region of Pieria, between the country’s highest mountain, Mount Olympus, and the coastline of the Thermaic Gulf. This unique location offers a rare combination of landscapes: within a single day, one can move from forested mountain paths to the sea. Nearby beaches such as Plaka and Litochoro offer a mix of sandy and pebble shores, while the blue-flag beaches of Paralia are easily accessible by bus or bicycle from our facility.
The wider area is rich in history and cultural heritage. The archaeological site of Dion reveals the ancient religious center dedicated to Zeus at the foot of Mount Olympus. The Vergina Museum near Veria preserves the legacy of Philip II and Alexander the Great, while the monasteries of Meteora combine dramatic natural formations with centuries of spiritual life. Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, is less than an hour away and offers a vibrant urban environment with museums, cultural events, and contemporary city life.
Katerini itself is a medium-sized city that reflects the authentic life in Greece. It is neither a tourist resort nor a metropolitan center, but a place where everyday life unfolds visibly in neighborhoods, public spaces, and local initiatives. Markets, bars, cafés, small businesses, and community events shape the rhythm of the city, while its size allows people to connect easily and take part in collective efforts. This balance between accessibility, proximity to nature, and a strong sense of community makes Katerini a perfect spot.
The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters. During the summer months, temperatures often rise above 30°C, with plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall. Winters are generally mild, with temperatures rarely falling below 5°C, while most of the annual precipitation occurs during this season.
